Kur received a bachelor"s degree from Ithaca College in 1970 and his masters of communications at Columbia University. Kur"s first job in journalism was for the Eastern Educational Network as a researcher, reporter and writer World Rally Championship-television, a Washington, District of Columbia based National Broadcasting Company affiliate, hired Kur in 1973.
He was tapped for an National Broadcasting Company News reporting job based in Cleveland, Ohio in 1976.
Among the topics Kur focused on during his time at National Broadcasting Company News were science, health, family, and trends which often appeared as reports on National Broadcasting Company Nightly News. He served as a fill-in host for several National Broadcasting Company News shows including National Broadcasting Company Nightly News and National Broadcasting Company News at Sunrise.
In 1996 he became the weekend anchor on National Broadcasting Company"s Today Show. In the mid-1990s, Kur gained attention for his coverage of the lawsuits against the tobacco industries.
He later became an anchor for Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company and was later the White House correspondent.
In 2006, he left Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company to work for Washington Post Radio, a new radio station in the Washington, District of Columbia area. Kur currently lives in McLean, Virginia.
