After graduating first in his class at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Scaringe obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At Massachusetts Institute of Technology"s Sloan Automotive Laboratory, Scaringe was a member of a research consortium that allowed him to collaborate with top engineers from several major auto companies. Through extensive research and by touring automotive manufacturing facilities worldwide, he identified a need for additional flexibility and efficiency in car manufacturing and engineering systems
