(New Statesman Surrounded by photographs, Major Desmond Co...)
New Statesman Surrounded by photographs, Major Desmond Cook exists quietly and alcoholically in his Baker Street flat. His days are spent at race meetings, fuelled by a dream of winning £30,000. As far as he's concerned, it's a modest-enough sum; and one which will allow him to live out his remaining days in comfort. But one day, an Irishman tips him a rank outsider for the fourth race at Ascot. And when the horse does, indeed, win, Desmond's life is violently transformed. There's a mystery to solve; a mystery that will lead him to a breathtaking climax at Longchamps...

The Passion Flower Hotel is a novel by Rosalind Erskine (real name Roger Erskine Longrigg). The story concerns a young girl going to an English girls' boarding school. In the dormitory, the girls discuss losing their virginity and decide that the best way is to set up a "service" for the local boys' school situated across the lake from them. The subject is treated in a light manner.

The proceeds of a wage robbery come, by mistake, into the hands of Gregory Pratt as he sits on his commuter train. Gregory lives, with his father, in deprived circumstances in an old mansion which is converted into a form of commune for distressed gentlefolk. Gregory struggles with his conscience over the money, but his father is certain; no one will suffer if they apply the find to their own purposes, and those of their neighbours. This is a story of high comedy, shrewd observation, and an exciting read from cover to cover.

("The Man" and his associates have no compunction and no m...)
"The Man" and his associates have no compunction and no morals. White-slaving, blackmail, terrorism, torture and mini-battles on the high seas are the order of the day. Against them, in London, the Caribbean and off the coast of America, is Lady Jennifer Norrington and her team. The storyline is both exciting and realistic, with settings and characters described in detail, and the overall plot has superimposed upon it sub-plots that add tension and originality. Not one to be missed by adherents of the thriller genre!

'The Piece Peace – Peace is Possible' runs the advert of a band of self-proclaimed prophets from California who call themselves the 'Five'. They have money, a huge following, and make many converts who, in turn, provide more money. Even the established Churches are impressed. But is all as it seems, or is there a vast criminal conspiracy behind it all? Lady Jennifer Norrington, Count Sandro di Ganzarello, and Coleridge Tucker Iii embark on yet another adventure which culminates in an English Cathedral, having ranged as far afield from California as Italy, London, and Scotland, with brutal murders along the way. This terrifying tale is horribly possible and undoubtedly one to grab the reader from the outset.

(A comedy centred upon Hugo Cornish, who does his best to ...)
A comedy centred upon Hugo Cornish, who does his best to make ends meet as a somewhat strange man-about-town by doing odd jobs, and wherever possible sponging off others. His goal is simply to inherit millions of dollars from an equally bizarre individual, his Uncle Ned, who spends his time on a succession of hobbies. Together with Colonel Freddie Willis-Jevington, another hilarious character who has a fool-proof system for winning at roulette, Hugo finds himself beside the Californian ‘death-bed' of his uncle. The two of them fantasize and plot to the point where their mind set becomes one of self-deception. Hugo also experiences serious romantic difficulties. All in all, a brilliant comic novel which will delight from cover to cover.

David Cordle, a friend of Colly (Coleridge Tucker Iii), has supposedly fallen off a cliff in Vermont, but the death is viewed as suspicious, although possibly suicide. Colly decides to investigate and is immediately targeted in a ruthless attempt to murder him, and an innocent man dies. It soon becomes clear that Colly's friends and co-investigators, Count Sandro di Ganzarello and Lady Jennifer Norrington have also become the quarry of a gang of assassins who wish to eliminate anyone interested in Cordle's death. The three narrowly escape on many occasions, dodging bullets and even a lynch mob, as they move through the Us and into Mexico pursued by the unknown gang, who appear to be able to find them wherever they hide. Just what is behind it all, and why should they be the targets now?

At the same time, she falls for a young German who is in Morocco to set up a business venture that will make him very rich indeed. He has good looks, brains and everything about him transfixes her. From the back alleys of Morocco the story moves to London, France and then Kenya, with murder and mayhem always present. Lady Jennifer Norrington, Colly, and Sandro travel to India to uncover a drug-stealing operation which develops into something altogether more horrible and frightening. Jenny is caught and used as bait for the others by the perpetrators of a long series of religious murders that was thought to have been stamped out in the nineteenth century, but as an organization still survives. This wholly credible tale is set against exotic backgrounds and contains the kind of detail readers have come to expect of Drummond. It is a true suspense novel in all of the best traditions, with plot and sub-plots and many surprises.

In the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, Mustafa Algan Bey sells carpets. His Swiss bank account, however, does not reflect the business he does. The deposits are large, irregular and in foreign currencies. It is not long before a connection is revealed with a Russian scientist who has a new strain of opium poppy seeds to sell. Lady Jennifer Norrington and her compatriots decide to holiday in Turkey, but are soon drawn into another adventure, this time against ruthless drug-runners and with the prospect of many hundreds of deaths from the drug produced from poppies grown out of the Russian seeds.
