Roger Mullin graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master of Arts
Honours degree in Sociology in 1977. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Stirling where he teaches postgraduates Applied Decision Theory, The Political Environment, and Organisation Change. He writes a monthly column in The Times Educational Supplement Scotland and works as an educational consultant.
Mullin has been involved in the Scottish National Party for some time.
He is a former Vice-convener of the Scottish National Party. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Scottish National Party in the Paisley North by-election, 1990 where he received 29.4% of the vote and was also unsuccessful in Paisley North in the 1992 United Kingdom general election.
He fought three other elections unsuccessfully for the Scottish National Party. Mullin was selected as a candidate for the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath constituency and received 27,628 votes and 52.2% of the vote, winning a majority of 9,974 in the 2015 United Kingdom general election over the Labour Party whose incumbent Member of Parliament, Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister, had retired in what had been Labour"s safest seat in Scotland. Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath saw a turnout of 69.73% the highest recorded for this constituency.

He has been the Member of Parliament (Member of Parliament) for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath since May 2015. He is a Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development since 1988 and also holds a Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
