Ranie Narah, wife of Bharat Narah a congress politician of Assam, graduated from the University of Guwahati with a Bachelor degree.
She held the position of Deputy Chief Whip of the Indian National Congress in the 15th Lok Sabha. On 21st March 2016, she got elected along with Ripun Bora of the Incorporated to the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Indian Parliament securing 47 votes out of 85 (minimum requirement was 38 votes). She was active in sports and represented Assam in volleyball, weightlifting, shot putt, discus throw, and cricket.

Her playing position was All-rounder. Narah remained active in sports after retirement.
She was the President of the Women"s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) until its merger with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2006. Narah is Vice-President of the Assam Football Association and Assam Cricket Association.
Narah began her political career with the Indian National Congress in 1995.
She became the General-Secretary, Vice-President, and President of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress in rapid succession. Narah was elected to the Parliament of India in 1998 from the Lakhimpur constituency in Assam. Narah was elected to the National Council of the Indian Youth Congress in 2003.
She was appointed Deputy Chief Whip of the Indian National Congress in 2009.
Narah was inducted into the Union Cabinet of India as Minister of State (MoS) for Tribal Affairs in 2012.
She subsequently joined the BCCI as a board member of the Women"s Committee. She has since served three terms as a Member of Parliament (Member of Parliament) from the Lok Sabha.
