He is serving as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, District of Columbia, a role which he assumed on March 18, 2007. He is the third of five children of the writer, politician, and former Minister of Culture for Spain Jorge Semprún and the French film-editor Colette Leloup. He is the grandson of the Spanish diplomat José María Semprún Gurrea and great-son of Antonio Maura, Prime Minister of Spain on five separate occasions.
