Career
In the summer of 2005, the Pittsburgh Penguins used their second pick of the National Hockey League Entry Draft to draft Gergen sixty-first overall. Two months later, Gergen joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association"s University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. Gergen skated 153 games for the Bulldogs from 2005 until 2009, scoring 34 goals and 35 assists.
On May 13, 2009, Gergen signed with the Salzburg Red Bulls for the 2009-2010 Erste Bank Eishockey Liga season.
He scored 11 points in 45 games. Gergen started the 2010-2011 season with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. He was released from the team on December 19, 2010.
On December 27, 2010, the Bakersfield Condors announced they had signed Gergen to a contract. In January 2012, the Condors traded Gergen to the Idaho Steelheads.
