United States representative lawyer politician
He studied law, was admitted to the bar on June 21, 1811, and commenced practice in Philadelphia.
He served as a first lieutenant and lieutenant colonel in the First Regular Pennsylvania Volunteers during the War of 1812. Ash was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress. He was not a candidate for reelection in 1836 to the Twenty-fifth Congress.
He practiced law until his death in Philadelphia in 1858.
He is interred in Christ Church Burial Ground, located at Fifth and Architecture Streets.
