Motoki Tokieda was born on December 6, 1900 in Tokyo, Japan.
After graduating from Tokyo University (1925) came to be recognized as an authority on the national language.
Motoki Tokieda was a professor at Tokyo University and the author of several works, including "Principles of the National Language," "History of Research in the National Language" and "Methods of National Language Research." He was a pupil of Shinkichi Hashimoto. However, Motoki Tokieda criticized Hashimoto's Japanese grammar and created his own "Tokieda grammar" from his own "language process theory" (言語過程説, gengo katei setsu).
