Career
He is currently an assistant coach with the Portuguese Adelaide Football Club. Drafted with the third selection in the first American Federation of Labor-Congress Rookie Draft by Melbourne in 1997, Bassett was elevated to the senior list during the season but was unable to make his American Federation of Labor-Congress debut for the Demons due to a chest injury. At the end of the season he was traded to Adelaide, and went on to become one of the Crows" best defenders.
He played 210 games for Adelaide and topped off a great 2005 season by being named Best Team Manitoba and coming runner up in the Club"s Best and Fairest award.
Some of Bassett"s nicknames include The Hound, Bassy, Bruce and Fred Basset – after the comic strip which appears in many Australian newspapers. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1997.
