Career
Undrafted, Schaus spent four years at UMass Lowell (Hockey East) from 2006-2010, recording 65 points (10-55) and 220 penalty minutes in 148 career games. On March 22, 2010, he was signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks. After a season in the American Hockey League with Sharks affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, Schaus signed a one-year contract to remain in the AHL on July 5, 2011 with the Syracuse Crunch.
Unable to earn an National Hockey League contract, Schaus embarked on a European career, signing a contract with Norwegian club, the Stavanger Oilers for the 2013-2014 season on February 8, 2013.
Schaus spent the 2014-2015 season with German club, the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg of the DEL. He was unable to make the expected impact in contributing with 15 points in 45 games before opting to leave as a free agent at seasons end in signing with Austrian club, The Human Context TWK Innsbruck on May 28, 2015.
