He was also a lawyer by career and became a provincial administrator for the game. Norton"s first-class debut was with Western Province versus an Australian team in 1902 but had no score on that occasion. In the 1909/10 season, Norton played in the fifth Test match during a series with England"s visiting Marylebone Cricket Club.
On that occasion, Norton picked up four wickets for 47 with Jack Hobbs and Frank Woolley, scoring 2 and 7.
