Career
He is currently an assistant general manager for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (National Hockey League). As a player, he played defence for six teams in the National Hockey League during a thirteen-year professional career. Maciver was not drafted by an National Hockey League franchise and instead took the university route in order to reach the National Hockey League. While playing at the University of Minnesota - Duluth, MacIver earned a communications degree and signed as a free agent with the National Hockey League"s New York Rangers upon graduation.
He played 500 regular season games in the National Hockey League, scoring 55 goals and 230 assists for 285 points and collecting 350 penalty minutes.
A career highlight came during the Ottawa Senators" debut season of 1992-1993, when Maciver led the team in scoring with 17 goals and 46 assists for 63 points in 80 games. In the spring of 1996, he scored the final goal in Winnipeg Jets" history prior to the team"s relocation to Phoenix, Arizona, scoring in the sixth game of a first round playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings.
Post-playing After retirement, Maciver served an assistant coach for the American Hockey League"s Springfield Falcons from 2000 to 2003 and the National Hockey League"s Boston Bruins from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, Maciver was hired by the National Hockey League"s Chicago Blackhawks to serve as the club"s director of player development, and was promoted to director of player personnel in 2011.
After Marc Bergevin left the club to become the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens for the 2012-2013 season, Maciver was promoted to assistant general manager.
