Branstetter was killed in an airplane accident on November 17, 2011, when the Piper Pennsylvania-28 Cherokee he and others were traveling in for a recruiting trip crashed in Perry County, Arkansas, about four miles south of Perryville.The Piper was extensively fragmented by impact forces and the passengers" bodies also badly mutilated.
The mangled condition of Branstetter"s remains made it difficult for medical examiners to determine if he had any preexisting conditions, although they found no trace of drugs or alcohol in his system. In the end, the exact reason for the crash could not be determined.
