Then set out on long series of voyages to Dutch Indies, China, Japan, Manchuria, Korea, Mongolia and South Sea Islands. Came to the United States and wrote screen plays for several years for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Charlie Chaplin. Returned to Europe in 1939 and remained until German invasion.
Escaped to Spain, then Portugal, eventually reaching United States.
