Background
Khayyam was born to a Muslim family in 1949 in Bombay, to Zia Sarhadi and Zahira Ghaznavi in British India, grew up there.

Later he moved to Karachi and stayed there for sometime and moved again to Lahore. Khayyam went to United States where he got the master"s degree in cinematography. Sarhadi started his career from acting and directing theatre plays and later started working in television dramas with Pakistan Corporation.
Since then he had worked in thousands of dramas and directed a few.
He also worked in some films. His scripts were in Roman letters because he couldn"t read Urdu well.
Sarhadi died with a sudden heart attack on February 3, 2011 with the age of 62 in Lahore.His funeral was held at his residence in DHA.
