In November 1919 Huszár was appointed Prime Minister and provisional head of state. He served until the official re-establishment of the Kingdom of Hungary on 1 March 1920. Károly Huszár died on 29 October 1941 in Budapest at the age of 59 years.
In 1919 with the collapse of the communist Hungarian Soviet Republic, he was appointed Minister of Religion and Education in an interim cabinet composed of former members of the anti-Communist government in Szeged.
