He got elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2004 where he represents the Capital Development Authority in the Group of the European People"s Party (Christian Democrats) (EPP Group). At 24 years old, he was a member of the city council of Nuland. Between 1991 and 2003, Lambert van Nistelrooij was a member of the Deputies of the North-Brabant Province where he was responsible for public health, care for the elderly, housing, urban innovation and internationalisation.
He later became a member of the Dutch delegation to the Committee of the Regions in Brussels and Treasurer of the House of Dutch Provinces in Brussels.
Lambert Nistelrooij got elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2004 and reelected in 2009 and 2014. He is a member of the European Parliament Committee on Regional Development.
He is also substitute member of the European Parliament committee on Internal Market and member of the delegation for European Union-relations with Latin-America, Brasil and Mercosur. During his second mandate he was also engaged in energy and telecommunications in his function as a substitute member of the European Parliament Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.
