In 1935 Leslie Wilfrid Brown was ordained a deacon in the Church of England in 1935. He became a priest the following year and served around the world, from India to back home at Cambridge University. Brown was named Bishop of Uganda in 1953 and eventually became Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. In the dozen years in which he served in Africa Brown created several new dioceses.
During his long church career, Brown wrote several books, including The Indian Christians of St. Thomas, God as Christians See Him, and Relevant Liturgy. After his retirement from the church, Brown continued to write, completing Three Worlds, One Word in 1981 and The King and the Kingdom in 1988.
