Lieutenant-General Humphrey Lyons was an Indian Army officer
Background
Born at Street Austins in the English county of Hampshire in 1802, Lyons was the ninth of twelve sons of John Lyons of Antigua and Street Austin"s (1760-1816), and Catherine (1763-1803) (née Walrond), daughter of Maine Swete Walrond, 5th Marquis de Vallado.
Career
Lyons went out to India where he entered the 23rd Bombay Native Infantry on 25 May 1817. He was promoted to lieutenant-general on 20 May 1871 and died on 25 May 1873. Lyons married in 1824 Elizabeth Bennett (1798-1859), and had the following children:
Augusta Catherine Lyons, (1827-1828)
Edmund Willoughby Lyons, (1830-1889), Colonel, Indian Army, married twice and had issue
Algernon McLennan Lyons, (1833-1908), Admiral of the Fleet, Registered Nurse
George Maughan Lyons, (1835-1878), Major, Indian Army, died without issue
Henry Maine Lyons, (1837-1838)
Charlotte Salter Lyons, (since 1839) married 1859, Alexander Learmonth, and had issue
Minna Louisa Lyons, (1841-1926), married 1858, Jameson Alers-Hankey, and had issue
Humphrey married secondly in 1860, the Honorary
Adelaide Matilda Yelverton (1821-1884), daughter of the 3rd Viscount Avonmore.
