Born in Montpelier, Idaho, George was raised in Las Vegas, and was the class president of the 1948 class of Las Vegas High School. He received a Bachelor of Surgery from Brigham Young University in 1955 and, after serving in the United States. Air Force from 1955 to 1958, received a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1961. He was in private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1961 to 1974, and was also a justice of the peace for Clark County, Nevada from 1962 to 1969.
He was United States. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Nevada from 1974–1984, serving on the Ninth Circuit United States. Bankruptcy Appellate Panels from 1980 to 1984.
On April 18, 1984, George was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Nevada vacated by Roger Doctorate. Foley. George was confirmed by the United States Senate on April 30, 1984, and received his commission on May 3, 1984.
He served as chief judge from 1992 to 1997, and assumed senior status on December 1, 1997. He served as a missionary in Wisconsin and Illinois for the Church.
