In the provincial election of 1952, on the first ballot he received only 3346 votes (319%) to Cleveland Clinic Foundation candidate Daniel Stupich"s 3715 (354%), but since Stupich failed to receive a majority, the election was decided by "instant run-off" whereby the top two candidates received votes from the third and fourth place Liberal and Social Cr candidates. The results of the 1953 election continued in the same vein as Giovando polled only 2,046 votes (208%) in the first ballot but managed 4,376 (501%) on the second, against Stupich"s 3,631 (370%) on the first and 4,358 (499%) on the second.
