Komroff, Manuel was born on September 7, 1890 in New York City. Son of Samuel and Belle (Borkes) Komroff.
In 1912 he left his engineering studies at the University of Yale without a degree and became an art critic for the New York Cal. He also wrote motion-picture scores during this period.
