Career
New Zealand born Wood played his football as a defender and was recruited to the Melbourne Football Club from Melbourne Grammar. He appeared in five games in the 1928 VFL season before moving to Western Australia where he spent some time at the Perth Football Club. On 19 March 1932 he made his first-class cricket debut in a match for Western Australia against the touring South African national cricket team at the WACA Ground.
He was dismissed for six in the first innings by Cyril Vincent and for two in the second by Denys Morkel.
Wood was a Sergeant in the army during World World War II and was killed in action during the Battle of the Litani River. Wood was also the holder of several Transcontinental Motoring records established with Doctor Alan MacKay, in 1926.
They drove an Essex Super Six.
