Career
At the time of his death he was the wide receivers coach at Northern Arizona after serving as an offensive administrative assistant from 2007–2008 and wide receivers coach at Louisville in 2009. He had one son, Elijah Jaymes. From 1992–1995, Jeff Lewis was a quarterback for the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks completing 785 of 1,315 passes for 9,639 yards and 67 touchdowns.
He was inducted into the Northern Arizona Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Broncos selected Lewis out of Northern Arizona in the fourth round of the 1996 draft. Lewis died on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was an accidental drug overdose caused by a mix of morphine and zolpidem (Ambien).
