Born in 1975, John Haughm grew up in Montana, and played in several different metal bands as a teenager, some of them including future Agalloch bassist Jason Walton.
Born in 1975, John Haughm grew up in Montana, and played in several different metal bands as a teenager, some of them including future Agalloch bassist Jason Walton.
He is also an artist and graphic designer, having created the design and layout for the album Embodiment: Collapsing Under the Weight of God by a band he was previously in, Sculptured, as well as all of the releases, shirts, and promotional material for Agalloch. Eventually, Haughm and Walton moved to Portland where they met Don Anderson, guitarist of the death metal band Sculptured, and found that they had "tremendously similar taste in music and cinema". Haughm formed Agalloch in January of 1996.
He also had a brief stint in Sculptured, performing as the drummer on "Apollo Ends".
