From 1994 to 1997 he worked in the Washington, District of Columbia offices of Hill and Knowlton and later Burson-Marsteller. From 1997 to 2000 he served as Director of Communications for the Governor of Nuevo León. President Vicente Fox designated him as the Mexican consul in Austin, Texas.
In 2007 he was designated by President Felipe Calderón as the Mexican Ambassador to the People"s Republic of China.
The Senate confirmed his designation on April 2007.
