The son of Nikolaus von Jacquin, he graduated from the University of Vienna as a doctor of medicine in 1788.
Between 1788 and 1791 Jacquin was sent on a scientific journey to Germany, France and England by Emperor Francis World War II He inherited his father’s position as professor of botany and chemistry at the University of Vienna, which he held from 1797 until his retirement in 1838.
