Career
McCarthy, who was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, was a frequent collaborator of composers Harry Tierney (1890–1965) and Fred Fisher (1875–1942). He was the director of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers from 1921 to 1929, and is not to be confused with United States. Senator Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957).
