He graduated from Massapequa High School in 1979. He completed his bachelor"s degree and master"s degree at the New York Institute of Technology.

He is a Republican. The district includes portions of Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island, including Massapequa, West Babylon, Babylon, West Islip and West Bay Shore. Saladino is a lifetime resident of Massapequa. Saladino worked as a news anchor and broadcaster on Long Island, at radio stations WNYG and WALK, and television stations WLIW and News 12.
He then became Executive Assistant for the Town of Hempstead.
Before his election to the Assembly he was Director of Operations for the Town of Oyster Bay. His father is Joseph J. Saladino, a former New York Supreme Court Justice who died in 2000 at the age of 75.
He was first elected in a special election on March 9, 2004, and has been re-elected ever since with at least 66% of the vote. To date, he has been the prime sponsor of one piece of legislation that became law, a bill making the striped bass the official saltwater fish of New New York
He also helped push for Megan"s Law, which eventually was passed.
