Career
Born in Heraklion, Moniakis began playing football for the youth sides of Ergotelis F.C. and OFI Crete. He signed a professional contract with OFI and played for the senior side from November 2006 until December 2010, making 30 appearances in the Greek Superleague. He was suspended for six months after testing positive for doping before a league match played on 8 March 2009.
The 22-year-old international right-back from OFI signed with Olympiakos F.C., in January 2011 for a four-year contract, who had already loaned him to Kerkyra F.C. for six months.
At the start of 2011-2012 season, Moniakis returned to OFI. He stayed there till March 2015, when OFI announced that they are withdrawing immediately from the Greek Super League criticising the top-flight circuit for “unfair and uneven decisions” against the club and Moniakis is looking for the next club to continue his career. On 24 July 2015, he signed to AEL playing in the Greek Football League, for an undisclosed fee.
Moniakis played for the Greece Under-19 and Greece Under-21 national football teams between 2006 and 2008.
