Marcel Boyer holds a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Carnegie-Mellon University where he studied under the supervision of Nobel Prize laureate Robert Lucas, Jr. He is also a recipient of Bachelor of Science in Economics and Master of Arts from the University of Montreal in 1966 and 1968 respectively. In 1971 Marcel received a Master of Science in Economics from Carnegie-Mellon University.
From 1971 to 1973 Marcel Boyer was an assistant professor at York University. Later, he was appointed as an assistant professor of economics at the University of Montréal. From 1977 Marcel served as an associate professor at the University of Montréal, becoming a professor in 1983. At the same time, he also was a Department chairman of economics.
Marcel Boyer married Nicole Lavigne on August 27, 1966. They have thee children - Martin, Francois and Julie.
