Lubbock was Light Music Conductor at the British Broadcasting Corporation from 1933 to 1944. His operetta The King Can Do Number Wrong was the first to be commissioned and broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation. He appeared as a "castaway" on the British Broadcasting Corporation Radio programme Desert Island Discs on 15 June 1974.
