He also coached college football at Columbia University (1931–1932) as an assistant. However he later become a head coach at Louisiana Salle University (1933–1939) and at Loyola Marymount University (1940–1941). Brill died of a heart attack at age 67 on April 30, 1973 in Los Angeles, California.
Prior to his career as a coach, Brill played football at Penn and Notre Dame.
He played at Penn as a freshman before transferring to Notre Dame. He left Penn because the coaches didn"t seem too impressed with his abilities.
Brill received All-American honors as a halfback with the Irish. Brill was one of four All-Americas on Knute Rockne"s last undefeated team in 1930.
