Born in Kent, United Kingdom, Geoffrey Paterson was educated at The Judd School, Street John"s College, Cambridge, the RSAMD and the National Opera Studio. He was employed as a conductor at the Royal Opera House as part of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme. His freelance work includes engagements with Opera North, Manchester Camerata and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.
He is a noted exponent of contemporary music, and in 2010 founded the Theseus Ensemble with the patronage of Pierre Boulez.
