The son of the gymnasial headmaster Johann Philipp Crollius and Margaretha Gabriela Joannis, Crollius studied in Halle and Göttingen. He succeeded to his father in the management of the Herzog-Wolfgang-Gymnasium in Zweibrücken, the most renowned school in Palatinate-Zweibrücken.
