George served his apprenticeship with John Perry. George had sons, Richard, Henry and Frederick. They subsequently took control the business.
Fredrick set up Frederick Green and Company, handled passengers and cargoes.
Finally, after George retired in 1838, Richard, who was the eldest, took overall direction and including managing the ships. George also founded George Green"s School, which has maintained a maritime connection, and today the school is supported by the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.
He was buried at Street Matthias Old Church.
