George K. MacKenzie, born 30 May 1910 in Brooklyn, New York, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1931.
Education
MacKenzie attended the Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Deep Sea Diving School and the advanced course in the Submarine Officers" School in addition to serving in Raleigh (CL-7), Bonita (Steamship-165), and Plunger (Steamship-179) and commanding Falcon (ASR-2) and Triton (Steamship-201).
Career
Lieutenant Commander MacKenzie was killed in action 15 March 1943 when three Japanese destroyers sank Triton in waters just north of the Admiralty Islands. In 1945, the destroyer United States Ship MacKenzie (Doctor of Divinity-836) was named in his honor.
