Education
Born in Oxford Street, London, on 27 September 1785, Redford was educated at Hoxton College and the University of Glasgow, where he matriculated in 1808 and graduated Master of Arts In 1834 Redford was chosen president of the Congregational Union of England and Wales, and received from the University of Glasgow the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, and the degree of Doctor of Divinity was afterwards conferred upon him by Amherst University, Massachusetts.
