He was one of the Grove Baronets. Grove joined the British South Africa Police in Rhodesia in 1911 and served during World War I in the South-West Africa Campaign and East African Campaign and with the King"s African Rifles, rising to rank of lieutenant. He was co-director of the 1929 film A Dangerous Woman and served in technical advisory roles in Tower of London, Christopher Strong, and the 1930 version of Raffles.
