As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. (Armchair Fiction presents the best in classic science fic...)
Armchair Fiction presents the best in classic science fiction novels. “The Green Man Returns” is a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi satire written by Harold M. Sherman. Was it the last chance for Earth? The Great Light came to Earth as the Green Man had said—and there was no war… In this tongue-in-cheek, often moralistic sequel to “The Green Man,” Numar of Talamaya returns to tell the world of his far-reaching plan to change Earth into an eternally peaceful planet. A galactic citizen of wide-spread magnitude, Numar predicts the destruction of Earth if his instructions are not carefully adhered to. Numar’s complex plan is based on a socialistic culture where all the planet’s citizens are essentially equal. The problem he faced, though, was enlisting the cooperation of those people on the higher end of Earth’s social spectrum. Would he succeed, or would Earth’s destruction become imminent? Find out in this wild, satirical tale from the pages of Raymond A. Palmer’s “Amazing Stories” magazine.

( Thoughts Through Space had its origin in a daring plan ...)
Thoughts Through Space had its origin in a daring plan conceived by two courageous men. It began in Autumn 1937 when a group of Russian flyers on a trans-polar flight crashed on a shelf of ice on the Alaskan side of the Pole. To find and rescue them--if they were still alive--the Russian government commissioned Arctic explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins to organize and lead an aerial search in those desolate regions. While in New York, prior to his departure, Sir Hubert met Harold Sherman, a student of mental powers who had long been intrigued by telepathy, the phenomenon of mind-to-mind communication. Seeing an unusual opportunity to put telepathy to a scientific test, Sherman and Wilkins decided to collaborate on a six-month experiment. It was agreed between them that Wilkins, once his expedition was underway, would try to transmit thought messages at prearranged times directly to Sherman in New York. Both men would keep written records of each session, Wilkins noting down his thoughts as "sender," and Sherman recording his mental impressions in his role as "receiver." This account re-creates all the absorbing drama and adventure of the experiment as the participants lived it. With Wilkins you fly in a small plane over the roof of the world, scanning the moonlit landscape for lost fliers, your mind filled with worried thoughts of weather conditions, radio contacts, fuel supplies, and countless other perils while straining to send your thoughts across space to the waiting mind of Harold Sherman. With Sherman, you will sit in a darkened room in New York with sights and sounds flooding into your awareness. And you will read of the remarkable successful results when the two men finally compared notes, proving that the thought--messages were indeed sent and received across 3,400 miles. Sherman's years of study convinced him that his telepathy is a common human ability, and that we can all learn to use it.

"At present, the fields of Science and Medicine...will not accept the validity of 'bare hand psychic surgery,' flatly denouncing in many instances, without investigation, all reported phenomena as fraudulent. (Armchair Fiction presents fully illustrated, extra large ...)
Armchair Fiction presents fully illustrated, extra large editions of classic science fiction double novels. “All Aboard for the Moon” is a fine tongue-in-cheek sci-fi adventure by Harold M. Sherman. There it stood in the middle of a massive hangar—a big, beautiful silver rocket ship. Its destination: the moon! On board would be Hollywood playboy/rugged explorer Gil Benson, along with his two trusted partners in adventure, engineer Jerry Torrence and Professor Crowley, the latter a noted atomic scientist. Everything was set…the rocket was ready to go. But two jealous women seeking goodbye kisses is never a good thing—especially on board a spaceship that’s about to blast off. So in the blink of an eye Gil Benson’s entire venture was turned upside down. No one would have ever guessed that a playboy bachelor, a pretty red-head, and a Hollywood press agent would end up in a rocket ship together heading for the moon; but there was no turning back—a lunar adventure was ahead for them all. Who would then have imagined that these three unlikely people would be the ones to save Earth from possible extinction…? This double novel’s second tale is “The Metal Emperor” written by Raymond A. Palmer, longtime editor of magazines like Amazing Stories, Fantastic Adventures, and Other Worlds. It appeared in the November 1955 issue of Imaginative Tales. It was his last published work of fiction. From out of Earth’s forgotten past sprang a terrible menace to all mankind. Sweeping down from the black void of outer space came an invading horde known as the Rif. The Rif was led by a monstrous machine made of metal, standing higher than the tallest skyscraper. This monstrosity was known simply as “The Metal Emperor.” Though metal it was, encased in its giant skull was the brain of a human—a malicious brain with evil intent, thousands of years old. Its plan was simple: exterminate the human race! With Earth’s leadership incapacitated, it was up to a lowly engineer and a beautiful mistress with a fantastic mind-probing device to save Earth from total destruction.

Harold Morrow Sherman was born on July 13, 1898, in Traverse City, Michigan.
He studied at the University of Michigan for a short amount of time, then moved to Detroit to work for the Ford Motor Company.
In 1921, Harold worked as a reporter for The Marion Chronicle in Indiana. He moved to New York City in 1924 to write several popular boys" sports and adventure books (notably the Tahara series) and to produce two plays on Broadway. The Sherman family spent the 1950s and early 1960s in Hollywood, writing for television and lecturing on his most recent work.
He died on August 19, 1987.
Sherman with the explorer Hubert Wilkins carried out their own experiment in telepathy for five and a half months starting in October 1937. This took place when Sherman was in New York and Wilkins was in the Arctic.
The experiment consisted of Sherman and Wilkins at the end of each day to relax and visualise a mental image or "thought impression" of the events or thoughts they had experienced in the day and then to record those images and thoughts on paper in a diary. The results at the end when comparing Sherman"s diary to Wilkins was claimed to be more than 60 per central
The full results of the experiments were published in 1942 in a book by Sherman and Wilkins titled Thoughts Through Space.
In the book both Sherman and Wilkins had written they believed they had demonstrated that it was possible to send and receive thought impressions from the mind of one person to another. The magician John Booth wrote the experiment was not an example of telepathy as a high percentage of misses had occurred. Booth wrote it was more likely that the "hits" were the result of "coincidence, law of averages, subconscious expectancy, logical inference or a plain lucky guess."
