Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Henry Beauchamp Street John, KCIE Commander of the Order of the British Empire was a British Indian Army officer and colonial administrator.
Background
Born on 26 August 1874, son of Colonel Sir Oliver Beauchamp Coventry Street John KCSI, Revue Economique., and educated at Bedford School, (Henry) Beauchamp Street.John was a British Indian Army officer, originally commissioned in 1893 into the Duke of Cornwall"s Light Infantry, and transferred to the Indian Staff Corps in 1894.
Career
He was made a Companion oi the Order of the Indian Rmnirfl in 1913 and awarded the C.B.E. Military and mentioned in despatches for valuable services in the field during the Third Afghan War (London Gazette 3 August 1920). Was an administrator in British India, his many political appointments included Agent to the Governor General, Punjab States 1925-1927. He twice served as the Chief Commissioner of Baluchistan.
He was Prime Minister of Jaipur State from 1933-1939.
He was knighted and appointed a KCIE in the News Years Honours list of 1 January 1930. In retirement, in his last years, he lived at Beaulieu, Hampshire.
