The Mulholland family were prominent in the cotton and linen industry in Ireland. He served as High Sheriff of Down in 1884. He was elected to the British House of Commons for Londonderry North in 1885, a seat he held until 1895, when he succeeded his father in the barony and entered the House of Lords.
Lord Dunleath married Norah Louisa Fanny Ward, daughter of Honorary
Somerset Ward, in 1881. Their eldest son Captain Honorary
Andrew Edward Somerset Mulholland was killed in action in the First World War. Henry became Speaker of the House of Commons of Northern Ireland and was created a Baronet in 1945.
Lady Dunleath died in 1935.
