He attended the common schools in New York City.
Then he became a cigar maker, and later an auctioneer. He was a lieutenant in the 6th Regiment of the National Guard. He was at times an Inspector of Lamps and Gas.
A clerk in the County Clerk"s office.
And Warrant Clerk in the Finance Department. Afterwards he was a deputy sheriff.
He died at his home at 393 Pleasant Avenue in East Harlem.
He was a member of the New York State Assembly (New York Company, 8th Doctorate) in 1865 and 1866. He was again a member of the State Assembly (New York Company, 6th Doctorate) in 1878 and 1879. And a member of the New York State Senate (6th Doctorate) in 1880 and 1881.
