(Augustine sdoctrine of Predestination, together with such...)
Augustine sdoctrine of Predestination, together with such comments as may be necessary for a due examination of, and judgment upon, it. Before entering, however, on S. Augustine sstatements, some general description of the doctrine itself, its grounds, and its defences, will be necessary: and these will require special consideration, with a view to ascertaining their soundness and validity. This introductory matter will occupy the following chapter, in addition to the present one, in which I shall endeavour to give a general description of the doctrine. A distinction must, in the first instance, be drawn between the predestinarian and the necessitarian or fatalist. The predestinarian and the fatalist agree, indeed, in the facts of the case, and equally represent mankind as acting necessarily, whether for good or evil, in distinction to acting by an original motion of the will. (This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

(Treatise which I published last year, I discussed the pre...)
Treatise which I published last year, I discussed the predestinarian language of Scripture in general. I new come to a particular instance of that language, viz., the term Regenerate; a term which, taken in this connection, will be found to have a particular meaning; which meaning of the term regenerate, will explain and decide the doctrine of baptismal regeneration. On the important subject of Divine Grace, and the rule on which it is bestowed, two great positions claim our attention; one of which the Church imposes, and the other tolerates. The position which the Church imposes is, that God gives regenerating grace to the whole body of the baptized ;the 1T he phrase that all the baptized are regenerate, is used throughout this treatise as expressing the doctrine of baptismal regeneration. I am aware that it does not express it accurately, because in cases of adult baptism, the doctrine even of baptismal regeneration does not allow the individual to be regenerate, unless he has fulfilled the conditions of faith and repentance ;and, therefore, inasmuch as all adults may not fulfil these conditions, the doctrine even of baptismal regeneration does not assert that all the baptized are regenerate. I use the phrase, however, for the sake of convenience and shortness, and because no argumentative consequence is involved in it, as compared with a more correct one. The more correct mode of stating the doctrine of baptismal regeneration would be to say that all persons baptized in infancy were regenerate. But whether I used this or the former and more summary statement, would make not the slightest difference to the argument of this treatise from first to last. The hypothetical nature of the assertion of regeneration, as made of the baptized, is exactly as evident made of all persons baptized in infancy, as it is if made of all the baptized. For the body of persons (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)

He was born at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, the younger brother of Thomas Mozley, and was educated at Oueen Elizabeth"s Grammar School (now Queen Elizabeth"s High School, Gainsborough) and later Oriel College, Oxford.
Oriel College.
Mozley was elected to a fellowship at Magdalen in 1840. He took an active part in the Oxford Movement. He said he could no more follow John Henry Newman, his brother-in-law, into the Roman communion "than fly." He was joint editor of the Christian Remembrancer.
He withdrew from the position because of his substantial agreement with the famous Gorham decision.
Mozley was one of the earliest supporters of The Guardian, the High Church weekly. In 1856 he became vicar of Shoreham, in 1869 canon of Worcester, and in 1871 regius professor of divinity at Oxford.
He died at Shoreham on 4 January 1878.
