After living for a time in Albany, New York, Worthington moved to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. With whom he had 3 children: Robert Searing Worthington, Hattie Worthington, and William Henry Worthington I. Martha died in 1839. Mary Ann died in 1856.
Worthington died on April 23, 1880 in Denver, Colorado.
Worthington was first involved in the grocery business in 1835 in which he owned Worthington and Davis wholesale grocery stores until 1847 when he moved to Wisconsin. Then after moving to Wisconsin he was involved in farming for a while.
But While in Albany he served on the city council. He was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1852 and was re-elected in 1854.
First, from 1855 to 1856, and second, from 1858 to 1861.
From 1861 to 1874 he was secretary of Madison Mutual Insurance Company but reassigned due to poor health. He then removed to Denver, Colorado to spend his final years.
He was twice a member of the Senate.
