A mountain of a player, he is 6 ft 10 inches tall (the tallest Welsh rugby player until Luke Charteris was capped) and weighed over 20 stone at his peak. Jones made his international debut on Saturday, 26 November 1994 against South Africa in Cardiff aged 24 where Wales lost 20-12. After making his debut against South Africa in November 1994, Derwyn went on to play in 17 of the next 19 Internationals.
He gained a total of 19 caps for his country and his last performance was on 1 December 1996 against Australia where Wales lost 28-19.
