Career
He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Norfolk State. Prior to attending Norfolk State, Carey went to Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Cleveland Browns
After starting for four seasons at Norfolk State, Carey was considered a "draftable" cornerback prospect prior to the 2009 NFL Draft.
He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the draft. He was waived/injured by the Browns on August 6, 2009 due to a shoulder injury.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Carey was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 7, 2009. He was placed on injured reserve on September 1.
Carey was waived by the Jaguars prior to the start of the 2011 season.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions signed him on October 25, 2011. He was waived/injured on August 20, 2012, and subsequently reverted to the team"s injured reserve list on August 22. He was re-signed on November 1, 2012 after Central Bank Bill Bentley was placed on International Rectifier . On January 10, 2014, Carey signed a three-year contract extension with the Lions.
In the year 2015, Don Carey was the NFL"s unofficial leader in special teams solo tackles, and finished only one assist away from being tied with most total tackles.
