Born on the 18th of June 1801, one of ten children of Pierce Barron of Ballyneale, Clonea, Rathgormack, county Waterford and Anna nee Winston. He entered Saint John"s College, Waterford to study for the priesthood, and in 1823 was sent to the Propaganda College Rome to completed his studies gaining a Doctorate in Theology and ordained at Street Agatha’s church in 1829. Doctor Barron was appointed Professor in Saint John"s College, Waterford, where taught for seven years before moving to America, before taking up an appointment in West Africa.
Doctor Barron was appointed Bishop of Liberia by Pope Gregory XVI. The Rt.
Review Doctor Barron went to Savannah, Georgia, and died there of fever September 12, 1854. Review Barrons brother Sir Henry Barron, 1st Baronet served as an Member of Parliament for Waterford City.
