He was born in India and was the only surviving son of John Goodere of Burhope, Herefordshire, by his wife Anne Morgan, the daughter of John Morgan of Kent.

They had three sons. She died in or before 1714. He died on 29 March 1739, at the age of nearly 90. The third son was killed in a duel.

He was created a baronet on 5 December 1707, and was elected Member of Parliament in the Parliament of Great Britain for Evesham over three parliaments 1708-1715, and for Herefordshire in the 1722-1727 parliament.
